| Betsyann Duval (top).
The work in "I Object" explores paradox, incongruity,
and duality in the human condition, culture, media, and art. It
questions the biology that drives us and the societal forces that
manipulate us. Is the nude observer or object? Are we viewer or
voyeur?
Betsyann studied fine art at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts,
Boston, Diploma Program and at the University of Michigan. Her work
is in private, corporate, and institutional collections.
Stephan Ferreira (bottom).
"Torsos" by Stephan Ferreira features painted nudes of
the artist, typically cropped neatly below the eyes and around the
hips. Ferreira says he is interested in finding "strangeness
in shapes," and using light in an ironically romantic way to
reveal or obscure himself. Of particular interest to him are his
hands, with their own character: lean, lengthy and unmarked.
"Torsos" is Ferreira’s first solo exhibition in
Boston. He received a BFA from Umass Dartmouth in 2004.
