Soil Makers

Elizabeth Alexander: Soil Makers (top)
Elizabeth Alexander’s series "Soil Makers" uses nontraditional materials in her exploration of the growth patterns of lichens and frosts. She presents them as sculptural narratives that serve as both "enchanted autobiographies" as well as rigorous studies that redraft the general associations attached to both material and subject.

Bob Tomolillo: Lithographs (bottom)
Bob Tomolillo says that he "embraces all the blue collar tenets of this utilitarian medium." He believes that artists who become printmakers share in the working class ethic of the medium’s 200-year-old process: they become bounded by its characteristic strokes and scrapes.
