Arnold describes his work as influenced by the adoration of the relic, infused by ideas of body and memory. He has discussed his desire to preserve memory and awareness of mortality. He studied at the Renssellaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.

Perceptions of Nature

Beck says that she has been very familiar with handmade Japanese paper and sumi ink since her childhood. Instead of following the traditional sumi-e methods, Beck prefers to express her perception of the natural environment in abstract form using Japanese paper collage and the muted tonality that sumi ink creates.
